Indian Life with the Fur Trader

A 2 hour program, for children in grades 2 thru 5

This program will help children gain an understanding of Indian Life through the eyes of a Fur Trader in Western Pennsylvania. Hands on activities make history come to life, and help to build a life-long interest.

Beginning with a brief history of the Depreciation Lands, and how this area got an unusual name, the children, will visit with the Fur Trader. The Trader has spent much of his life among the local Indians and understands their ways. You will hear tales of Indian life, and gain a wonderful appreciation for their life style and ways of thinking. In addition, you will learn about the fur bearing animals in our area, and see the trade goods needed and desired by the Indians.

The experience for children will be greatly enhanced by donning colonial clothing, borrowed for the day.

This program works well for scouts, homeschoolers, groups of friends, and small school classes. Groups of 8-15 children can be accomodated

Fees: $10 per child, or $15 per child if Colonial dress is desired; 1 adult chaperone per 4 children at no charge.
